Any recommendations for someone to work on my 1970 Johnson 20hp? It sat for several years and I recently decided to try getting on the water again. I’ve replaced the carburetor, fuel pump & spark plugs. It will run 1-2 seconds on WD40 & starter fluid but won’t fire on gas mix.

Hoping to find someone who likes tinkering with old motors. Frisco/Lewisville to Texoma area preferably.

I was hoping to find someone closer but If I can't I might give you a call. I bought a "new" carb that has been cleaned and refurbished. It doesn't work any better than my original one.

Let me try to help via here. are you sure the carb is getting fuel to the bowl? When you pump the primer, does it get hard? If so, you should take the carb back off and give it a good cleaning. Sometimes new ones will have a sticky needle valve that needs to be cleaned. Other times, the float needs adjustment. If it's not getting fuel, bypass the motor fittings with a hose to see what happens. If the primer bulb is not new, replace it with a good one, not one of the cheap ones. Let me know what you find.

Carb is getting fuel. Primer bulb is new. It gets firmer but not hard. I replaced the carb with one that was rebuilt & cleaned. It fires on starter fluid sprayed in the plug holes but not on gas sprayed in there. It has spark but now I’m wondering if the spark isn’t hot enough to light fuel? I ordered tools to remove the flywheel so I can inspect the points. I also ordered a ratchet adapter so I can use a drill to start it. Maybe being able to turn it over longer will help.
