Went through something similar with Plano marine a few years ago. Cheaper to bite the bullet and take the loss. Lawyers and court will cost you more money. Unfortunately there's some bad marine shops out there. And insurance is useless.

Not sure what you got paid but that hull that old with that amount of damage should have been totaled .
Insurance paid and you picked a crappy shop there done
If hull was going to be fixed it would have to be glassed on the inside first and then glassed on outside looks like he just put on a bandage that peeled off.
Shop is not capable and probably doesn’t have money to pay you back
I have like 50 years experience in glass and dealing with claims
Think your screwed go find new hull

Some things are fishy here. Insurance companies don't just cut a check to any shop as they want it fixed correctly so what happened to the op doesn't cost them again. Second, most reputable shops warranty their work. Years ago I cracked the transom on one of my Champions. Insurance adjuster approved the repair at a local shop. Second time out the transom cracked again. Called insurance, they contacted repair shop and it was fixed again no questions asked.

The insurance isn't the one fixing it.



Are you gonna call a lawyer, if this repair isn't perfect? A complete clown job because the insurance doesn't pay for Full measure?

Insurance doesn’t care where you get something repaired. Trust me. When my Yamaha cracked the flywheel off the top, the insurance company stepped in to help. They said they’d pay for a lower unit and prop from obvious previous impacts. They didn’t send a check, they didn’t ask what shop. They said we will credit my checking account. It took 30’minutes. They also sent a marine specialist to the shop I dropped the boat off with to inspect the motor. The specialist was very thorough and fair. I still, to this day, have an open claim on the gel coat damage from an axle/spring Catastrophe. I don’t care about the little chips. I figure it makes it more enjoyable to fish when you ain’t worried about scratches.

My experience was 27 years ago, haven't had a claim since so not surprised things have changed.

We heard one side of a story. And 1500 people have viewed this thread. I hope his story is true, if not the glass shop will easily be able to figure out who it is, and use it in court if this guy chooses to go to court….

Maybe he should have... A lot of people ask for advice here... It's not all that unusual... So where else was he supposed to go??? He lives in Texas, owns a boat, had damage and is now looking for a little advice... He Googles bass boats, lives in Texas, and dang wouldn't you know it the TTF appears in the search... Have you searched to find out if he's posted on other blogs???... 1500 people and yet no one has said the shop goes above and beyond and the owner is above reproach... Live and learn...

I live in a world where you are innocent until proven guilty. Here on the TFF you’re guilty until you prove yourself innocent for some reason.

Years ago a buddy of mine (from Texas, like me) posted a few reels for sale on TFF classifieds, this was before PayPal was common. The deal was the buyer was going to send a money order, and when it was received my buddy would send the reels. Well the guy didn’t get his reels (because it turns out he wrote the wrong address on the envelope, so it was returned to him) while he took to TFF blasting my buddy before he got his money order back in the mail. He apologized to my buddy, but that was all after my buddy had been annihilated on here. Moral of the story? Make sure you know the whole story before you roast, especially a small business.

Never heard of the shop in question, I would go to a guy in Nacogdoches if my glass boat was damaged, but that doesn’t mean this shop is bad.

People are so quick to fight, argue, lawyer up, what a waste.

I’m not wearing my readers right now, but the first and second areas of damage to be different. The original damage and repair appears to be on the bottom, the second area of damage appears to be on the side cannot tell if it extends to the bottom, but they both appear to be the same distance from the rear. So they could be related to the same impact.

To me there was more unseen damage that compromised the fiberglass hull and possibly the port side stringers, hire an independent fiberglass specialist and get a thorough report, the original impact area might still have fractures extending from the peeled side, and the repaired bottom can be cored in various locations to analyze their layup materials.

I would never take a check the insurance company was willing to give me if what was damaged I actually wanted repaired. A check is the easy way out for insurance companies, and oftentimes you won’t find a reputable dealer to do the work for the amount of money that was given to you in a “check”

If you opt to have an insurance company communicate directly with the shop on your behalf, the shop can communicate that they need more monet for x,y,z reason above what was originally estimated. This happens all the time. You need a shop that knows how to communicate. In the end, you have a repaired vehicle, and you move on with life, you don’t have to worry about anything. Now, if your beater truck gets hailed on and you don’t care, take the “check”.

Point 2. Never go to a shop that doesn’t warranty their work. For this situation, something seems off, maybe some parts of the story are missing? Not sure.

I would take it to Classic Fiberglass in Sanger , and i would pay for it to be fixed right , i know this is not what you want to hear . woot

That is a difficult repair cause you almost have to repair it by gaining access from the inside. Means you gotta remove stuff from the inside to get to the actual hull. A long time ago I had to have a repair in that area, they had to cut out my floatation boxes, and cut up the floor to get to that area to put fiberglass down. Mine issues was a smaller area, but similar location and it was expensive. Thankfully it was found to be a defect in the hull and fixed under warranty.
