I don't venture into the bass fishing section, but I need basic bait caster and spinning reel set up.

What is a good entry-level set up from Bass Pro?

As far as reels go, I’d suggest ordering a great reel from Japan for the price you get a junker for from BPS

Get a shimano slx in the 6.3 ratio and a Falcon 7’ medium heavy rod for the baitcaster setup. You can effectively throw just about anything on that. And then get another one in the 7.2 ratio and forget about the spinning [censored]

This is a pretty good answer

Absolutely this, the Zillion is what the Chronarch aspires to be when it grows up.

Academy has changed their return policy on rods, I will no longer buy fishing poles from them.

That’s what happens when people keep bringing back their 7yo rods they broke in their car doors. It really was pathetic. What do you expect them to do?

This is what happens when Academy Sports expands outside of Texas into Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Agree, they are starting to suck now. Inventories definitely shrinking at my local location.
