It’s going to put a hurt on the Crappie population for sure. They might not realize it for a while as you can catch fish that weren’t typically caught without it. The total crappie out there will go down. They will need a serious stocking program.
Conroe has always gone on cycles. Eat ‘Em cycle, can’t catch ‘Em cycle, stocking cycle……repeat. FFS has been a thing in the crappie world for 10 years now. Okay but in your opinion how many anglers had FFS on their boat 10 years ago compared to today when it is practically standard equipment for most. I still don’t think FFS is the end game but with all factors involved to me it nearly has to have an impact. Also not like Livescope will be the standard a few years from now there will something new and even better for locating fish.

Back then were there tournament every day of the week and 2 tournaments on Saturday and Sunday at all ramps on the lake???... On my lake you can fish a night tournament every day of the week and on Saturday and Sunday they'll have a tournament from safe light to 12p and then another one from 6-1a... Every week from April through October... Then from November through March they'll have maybe one or two Saturday and Sunday. And that happens at every ramp on the lake... Oh and don't forget holidays, President's Day, MLK Day, Juneteenth, Veteran's Day, Black Friday because they'll have tournaments those days also... Back then, they didn't have near the pressure as we do today... More people, more fishing, more... Here's my take... Meh... Why try and explain yourselves???... Either buy and use it, or don't... It legal... A 10 page thread on the TFF isn't going to change anyone's opinion either way... Dan

Yep and it won’t hurt the population one bit. Crappie are one of the most prolific owners in the water. They will spawn a couple of times and pay millions of eggs. The state doesn’t even stock them in lakes that go almost dry and seem fishless because they will reappear on their own in a couple of years. FFS is not going to hurt any fish populations.

I can see how someone who doesn't own one would think there are less crappie than there really is. It was eye opening to me how many crappie are really in a lake.

Go back and look at Paul Elias win on Falcon. One 5 inch screen. Back then there really wasn’t a distinct advantage on equipment and experience was paramount. Now the new guys who are just starting out are running 6 screens, dual power poles and $4000 trolling motor. You can now buy a competitive edge and that’s what doesn’t sit well with me. The guy starting out with stacks of daddy’s money is going to beat the hard working man every time. Why does that bother me? Because I’m the hard working man. Just a few years ago you could make some good money fishing local trails. Now your overhead will kill you if you’re trying to stay competitive and that’s what will eventually kill participation. It already has to some extent.

The chances of FFS wiping out our fisheries is about the same as the oceans rising if we do t stop climate change

The worst thing about FFS is people won't shut up about FFS.
You are not a good or nice person.

The worst thing about FFS is people won't shut up about FFS. Truth. That applies to both sides of the FFS debate.

The worst thing about FFS is people won't shut up about FFS. HAHA that is true. We should stick to topics like what we had for breakfast and favorite worm color.

Is it the fishing equivalent of high-fenced shoot deer?
