I know some of you were wondering about conditions. My son and I walked down into the Nolan from Rock Creek Sunday afternoon about 4. Found a few fishermen. Nobody really catching fish. The water was up a bit fom last year. Maybe 6-8 inches. So the wading was a little more treacherous. WATER WAS COLD. Sprinkled off and on all evening.

A lot more moss, mostly confined to the bottoms. Though some standing and floating. Making retieval difficult.

Went upstream past the cliffs to the boulders. Found a lot of very small fish there chasing but not biting.

Walked all the way down to the big pile of rocks on the other side of the creek. Around at least two big bends in the river. From there you can see boats and Bee Bluff etc. We're talking WAY down stream. At least two miles. More fishermen here.

Caught a couple of nice females right at dark then had to make the long trek out. Stopped at the boulders at dead-last light and caught a couple of dinks. That was about it.

There was rain upstream and the creek was rising. Lots of floating suspended moss at that point, difficult to retrieve your lure.

As we approached Rock Creek there was a pretty good rush of water coming down stream, water already rising creating some turbulence and rapids in that area.

As you remember we all got quite a bit of rain that night. Warm temps this week and and more water should make for excellent fishing next week.

Thanks for the information. I have been wondering about it and thought I might go down there next week on spring break.

Yeah I posted this because I heard that you and a couple of other fellas were looking for info. It was fun to do the scouting run and informative as well.

Look forward to seeing you down there I haven't seen you on the creek in years. But, the Nolan hasn't been so great the last few years either.

That's why I haven't been much. I went once last year and the water level was perfect except too cold. I saw very few fish caught. The rains don't happen when they should any more and I've had more luck on the lakes than in the creeks for quite a few years now. It seems a little more normal this year, so we shall see. I'm thinking about taking my little boat down to Kimble Bend and running up from there. It all depends on the weather.

Anybody else have any input from this week on the Nolan.

I saw some pictures of the Nolan posted in the photo forum. It looks like a great place to take my kayak. Does anyone have any ideas where I should launch? On Google maps it looks like Nolan River Park on CR 1104 might work, what about CR 1127 going south west out of Blum is there river access, or there is a little unnamed road, it looks like a park on 933 by what might be Rocky Creek (from the top posting I assume its Rocky Creek). I am looking for access where I dont have to lug a heavy kayak 1/4 mile.

As you turn in off of 174 toward Blum there is a railroad track and then a bridge. You can actually gain access right at the bridge. If the water is right you can float all the way past rock creek and on to the Brazos. If it's not then there might some serious portaging. You can pull out at Rock Creek. The Trek to car acess is only 300 yds or so. up rock creek to an open parking area and the Corps Barrier. The path is pretty wide.

"OR" when you get into Blum you can turn right on 933 then go 'til you see trucks and cars and a bridge etc.you can pull off of 933 right at Rock Creek and down into the parking area. There is road that goes down the hill to the right of the pit and stops at the pipe that the corps put up for a barrier. From there follow the path about 250yds to the river. Great fishing in that area up and downstream depending on water conditions.

"Or" you can go past the turn-off to Blum and on to a gravel Rd County Rd Loop 1104 that goes down to Nolan Park past a quarry etc. And put in their and paddle all the way up.

Those'r the best ideas I've got.
