As long as you're smart about running the big water, particularly in when to not go out due to the winds, there's no reason why it wouldn't work.

Get a map of the lake, depending on what end of the lake you are on, your worste time on the water is when the winds run the length of the lake, I think it's NW/SW.

Winds as low as even 10-15mph that run the length of the lake can cause some pretty rough water.

Other than that just get good weather reports before heading out, Texoma is a great lake to fish, just remember to respect mother nature....

Very true...

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

What Catfish Hunter said...be smart, and be careful. 20'+ boats have been overturned in the wrong wind up there

If you're in the market and can buy larger, buy larger...

longer the better. the deeper v ones can handle a little rougher water too. bottom line though: if its 25mph wind, dont expect to fish out in the open. get into a cove and hide peep

The fact that you are asking this question should give you your answer. Go a little bigger and you'll be happier in the long run. Or not smile

My 16 1/2 deep V (Alumacraft) is 7' across and deep, and will keep you dry, but transitioning between big waves due to the short length makes for a bumpy ride when the waves are 2 feet tall. I hit Ray Hubbard yesterday and the waves just about beat me to death. Just like stated above, winds running the length of the lake are the worst for making the waves - as in yesterday at RH.

Good luck.

Take a kid fishing!

Texoma in high winds or storm will sink bass boats. 16 ft boat you will have water comming in. Most people don't go fishing on days like that but I have been caught in storms. You will be fine in a 16ft boat just remember what I said.

Many years ago I caught a lot of sand bass out of a 14 foot aluminum boat with a ten hp motor. You just have to watch where and when you go.

I'd power that 16' with as much engine it can handle so that you can get off the water fast. We fish 18' to 23' Falcon's,believe me,it get's to rough for us in those boats. Just be smart and live to fish another day.

You will have to pick your days carefully, there will be
days when larger boats can fish and you will be on the sidelines.
Stay close to safe harbor, watch the weather.

good luck

Texoma can't be anywhere near as bad as the Gulf of Mexico...and I fished my 15 ft CC boat offshore for many years outside view of any land. ALWAYS watch the weather, never gamble against Mother Nature, have a radio, cell phone, etc. and when possible travel with a companion boat....and never leave the dock in a boat that isn't "unsinkable" with proper floatation.
