well for one there are a ton of different lures you can use when the sandies are schooling, I have caught them on everything from soft plastic flukes to top water poppers. Also one trick I have heard of if you are going after just sandies is to take whatever lure you want to throw in the schooling fish and change out the treble hooks for a single short shank bait hook, or another thing you can do is take wire cutters and cut off one or two of the treble hooks, this last technique works much better if you don't have a split ring that you can simply open and change the hook style.

JPW. I was in the Yellow Tahoe.
You know, I think I saw the green and gold Nitro as well.
water_surge, I'm probably not the one to be giving advice, so I'll just tell you what we were using. The wife was using a white/black little george, and I was using a chartreuse/green tail spinner. (not a little george).

We ended up cleaning 10 fish. Very happy with that.
Had some excitement when we forgot one of the livebait rods and it got snagged on someone's anchor line and took a swim. Lucky for us, the rod floated! :-)

Yeah, I believe our lines got crossed, my fault I started tending to my phone instead of reeling in my line. Sorry about that blush

haha... No problem. By that time of day, the battery was so low, our trolling motor didn't work so well to keep us apart.
Nice to bump in to you!

Guys,

New to JP. Was across from the Oasis yesterday with my 3yr old. Picked up a 1.5lb largemouth by accident.

Did not like all of the chaos at that ramp, especially with my daughter around.

Britton is 10 min from my house. Is there decent Whitebass/hybrid fishing from Britton to the bridge?

Thanks,
Jeff

that ramp is pretty bad, if not from the folks at the ramp, then the drunks at the Oasis get pretty obnoxious.

What are some of the better baits to use on JP? I would love to be able to go out and catch a few fish. Also where is Fireman's Hump?

guys I could not agree with you more on the Lynn Creek Marina boat ramp, and that is a place I have known intimately for 15+ years. My father actually used to work there long before the fire came to the Oasis, in fact he worked there not long after it opened. During the summers of my youth I would go with him to work in the evenings and I would fish all night long until he got off of work. I used to fish out of the Gazebo all night before there was ever a deck built around it, and my father would bring me fresh shrimp from the kitchen to catch catfish with. So needless to say this place has a special place in my heart, and it is horrible to see what this entire area has become over the years. In fact I was recently inquiring about purchasing a boat slip at the marina and was advised against it by an employee who told me numerous stories of robberies of the various slips. Now it is nothing more than a rowdy bar with not exactely the best of crowds. I have a Grand Prairie parks pass that I use to put in at Lynn Creek Park and will almost refuse to go to that marina anymore. Hey guys it is not even summer yet either! Sorry I just read that and had to add my .02 on how I feel about it. Firemans Hump is near Dog head point and it is very easy to find on most maps of Joe Pool GPS or otherwise, I have three maps of JP and they all show it very clearly. If your still having trouble finding it just look for boats there is almost always someone parked right on top of the hump, however some people feel like they own this spot just F.Y.I but I am sure you have run into this on other lakes. As far as baits go I love to use slabs off the bottom, and I like to use tailspinners to cast and retrieve. The color of choice out there right now is chartreuse for sure. Hope this helps out. smile

Only Fireman owns that hump, where did it get its name anyway? USGS map doesnt show the darn thing prior to the lake being there. Hey, good meeting you Surge and Joe Pool Whites.

Sunday was my first guide trip with my Ipilot and boy was it a dream. I think some people thought I was motoring around but I was just controlling it from the helm, way, way cool.

Thanks Surge, obviously not hard finding fish but I enjoyed fishing next to you. Like I told you, I had that exact same boat prior to my CC and it looked alot better in my driveway, I miss it when I'm fishing without clients. Being that you have the Powerdrive V2 on your boat that I-pilot will make you a happy man. I didnt think the co-pilot function would benefit me too much but when the birds started hitting I just aimed the TM towards them and it never got off course, you may already have that but its included with the I-Pilot. Good looking boat.

Just a tip to the guys that where catching tons of 10- fish, use a 3/4 oz humdinger and throw it past or into the topwater action and let it sink. The small fish are topwater on Pool, the fat ones are hanging out deeper waiting for injured shad in which they have to burn less calories to grab a meal. Top it off with a big streamer or fly by night clouser and you can aviod the 10 inchers based on the size of the hook. Just my 2 cents.
