Was in Destin, FL last week and went fishing out of Panama City with my dad and 2 uncles. We were fishing a few miles offshore using live baits and cut cigar minnows. Had a blast almost non stop catching. Got our limit of red snapper, smaller groupers, and a few under amberjacks. Had a 8ft bull shark follow one of the fish up to the boat, which was just awesome to see.

Most of the charter boats have been hired by BP to drive around looking for oil. Kinda interesting seeing them drive back and forth down the shore. Also, Destin was even better than most years. The beaches were pristine and less crowded than normal since so many people have bailed on their plans.

One of the amberjacks, awesome fighting fish way stronger than you would think for their size.

awesome. Destin and Panama City is our family vacation spot every year. Glad to see fish being caught despite all the oil news.

I am heading to Seaside in a week. Did you book a charter? I am interested in a trip for my young sons.

congrats on the catching. My daughter picked up some red snapper and a trigger fish last week as well. The beaches are clear, no tar balls or oil

Yup, we went with Capt. Don Partlow his website is Capt Don he can put you on some fish.

If he is booked you can also check with Boxful Charters friend from work went with these guys and they are very good as well.

I would think these are pretty good trips to do with kids, its a short drive to get offshore and the action is pretty fast paced. Check the weather though, if its going to be choppy you might bring some dramamine for your boys.

We didn't see a drop of oil or a hint of sheen. The water was perfect. The only difference due to the oil we could see was everything was less crowded. Enjoy your vacation!
