Hey guys, I was messing around on youtube yesterday and watched a video of some idiot feeding his SnakeHead a 10 inch baby bass. This snakehead tore the bass in half in just one bite, it was scary!
This started to really worry me because all of these idiots have turned snakeheads loose and they are now popping up everywhere. I had no idea just how predatory these fish are. They got teeth like a Gar but a way nastier attitude. This snakehead wasnt even that big, im sure the bigger ones could eat a 3lb bass if they wanted too.
If you catch a snakehead you should kill it, especially if you like the native fish such as bass. These things are like velociraptors and can reak havoc on the natural environment!
Does anyone have any info on what these thing primarily feed on or there status right now as an invassive species! Whast can be done to stop their invasion!

I saw that video myself. It is definitely unsettling.

They will eat anything that cannot eat them. Florida is battling this fish now from people releasing them into canals causing a population explosion. Very unfortunate that this fish made its way here.

Ive read up that 'snakeheads' were first being imported alive into the US for Asian restaurants & markets. Its been going on for many years.
However, someone decided to take a few and release them into the Florida. Then they would try to harvest them so that they wouldnt have to spend anymore money on importing them in.

I seen a show called "Hooked" they had a special on about snake heads. Those things reproduce like rabbits. In one pond the parks dept killed all the fish in the pond, just to get rid of the snake heads. They said it would be easier to re-introduce the native species than to battle the snake heads. They are nasty and everyone on the show said to kill them if you catch them.

There's a guide that takes clients on snakehead fishing trips in the Florida canals. They will demolish a topwater toad. Looks fun to me.

Do a search on Snakeheads in the Potomac River. You can see how bad it can get and what they are doing to get rid of them.

I heard this too and it sounds just about right! Unfortunately, you cant treat all bodies of water like that pond where they just killed everything. This one might get real bad after seeing what these fish can do!

If we keep allowing people to bring in foreign species, lawfully or unlawfully without heavy penalties, then our waterways are in extreme trouble.

Are you sure it was a snakehead you caught and not a grinnel?

I would highly suggest contacting the tpwd and getting a hold of a state biologist.

Ok update.. the TPWD called me this morning they said it was a bowfin i told them i have fished for a long time and i have looked at the pictures on the net and yes it looked kinda like a bowfin but it had a long anal fin and looked like a picture of a northern snake head i went back to the trash can last night and this morning and the fish was gone so what to do now also it didn't have a spot on or near its tail like the bowfin fish . i wish i had keep it now my father also saw the fish and agreed on its anal fin being long and it had no spots on it .I also told him i have no reason to lye about such a series of fish in Texas lakes. I have only fished east texas lakes a few times and this was my first trip to this lake .
