How much effect does water temp have on how actively hybrid stripers will feed?

I found this line interesting.....

"Many species of fish feed or congregate where there are differences in water temperature. The warmer water accommodates a temporary increase in their metabolic processes, while the colder water is more oxygenated."

I was under the impression that the colder water was less oxygenated.

Great article.... I wish they had hybrid striped bass on the temperature chart for comparison.

Mike good article. An oldtimer in Rotary always tells me that when he lived on Whitney he never fished for stripers until the water temp got below 65. The article seems to support this.

I would think Hybrids comfort range would be higher than the striper. Its my understanding that they can tolerate higher water temps.

That's my understanding as well.

I looked at some research that had hybrids tolerating higher temps and lower oxygen, I just wasn't sure if their whole range is broader or their comfort level is much different.

From my experience on Tawak and Buchanan (lakes with hybrid and striper), the fish typically group together. My experience is limited though.

Hybrids are most active from 55 to 65, IMO.

Fall fishing gets in high gear when surface temp gets to
65, slows down when it gets below 55.

JB,

I would have to agree with you on that. I have noticed though that the bigger hybrids run together and the bigger stripers run together. Anyone else notice this?

Yep I agree, 65-70 is very good, below 55 is tuff! Hope Bocktober is good! This heat may make November one 2 remember wink
