Met the Legendary DTA at the LL Park Boat ramp at 9 AM, (kinda early for me to go fishing, but well, whatcha gonna do?), along with HD coworker, Steve D. We put in and headed for first hump, drifted around for a while with slabs and, I think we caught one or two insignificant sandies, so we headed for another hump, NADA, Hump #3, a few here and there, so we headed for a mini boat show, and an impressive school of sandies was on top, I killed em with a rooster tail but released probably 90 percent of those! DTA and steve picked up a few with slabs and various assorteds. We followed the school for a while, it petered out and so did boat show, As soon as they cleared out, we found some BIG sandies, and some major league hybrids! Slabs as they had moved down. That petered out so we hit two more humps with negligible results. By this time it was approaching noon, so we headed back to the site of the one and only boat show on the lake that morning but we were the only ones there. Saw some huge gar rolling, and as the temp was already well into the 100's, and the wind had completely died, we were about to go in. DTA and I started looking for surface action, saw one small pod, not worth chasing considering the distance needed to cover to get to em, and then, in the middle of the lake, we saw a dark, thick area of water. We studied it for a bit, trying to make sure it was fish, before firing up the big motor, and we saw white splashes and diving terns! Here we go! We eased up on literally ACRES OF A FRANTIC FEEDING FRENZY!! Shad were flying up out of the water only to be caught in mid air by crazed terns, or were unlucky enough to avoid the terns, and fall right into the mouths of ravenous sandies! In short order we had slabs under boat, rooster tails and little georges splashing into the thick of the schools, and a fish on either every cast or every drop for a solid two hours! The trolling motor was not used, as we drifted and the school was so massive, we could not drift out of them! NOT ANOTHER BOAT IS SIGHT, AS FAR AS THE EYE COULD SEE!! THAT IN ITSELF IS A LL RARITY!! We easily caught 100 or more apiece, and had two break offs by what we assume were huge hybrids, judging by the power displayed and the type of runs they made! Don, cannot thank you enough for an awesome trip!! Steve was pumped!!! Kept 18 magnums and two of the hybrids for future meals!! GO GETCHA SOME, BUT MAKE SURE DTA TAKES YOU TO HIS "HONEY HOLES!" Rudy

Rudy, you missed your calling. You should have been a writer. I enjoyed the day and your story. Most of it was even true!

Rudy got me into trouble with this report. A couple of people have called who read this story. They want me to take them out and have a day like that. I will never guarantee a day like that. To tell the truth, the fishing for me has been slow until Tuesday. The secret is going often and being there at the right time. Anyone can have a day like we did with the right conditions. The hybrids were there, but most people were not fishing correctly for them. Hint: leave your surface lures at home. Most everyone was doing ok with the whites. The fishing got about as good as it gets mid-day after the other boats went in. Saturday is open if any one is interested.

Don's just lucky that i could not find my camera, otherwise he'd be contending with a YouTube video of that massive school of sandies! It was phenomenal.

Very nice. I love fishing on weekdays. You don't have a bunch of knuckleheads out, like you do on the weekends. When the fish come up like that, usually the guys out during the weekdays know how to ease up on ya and join in.
I usually see DTA and a couple other guys out regularly on Mondays, but have never met them. Im off on Mondays so I am usually out on LL in a red bass tracker pt175. Stop by and say hello.

At the one boat show we were on the fringes of, everyone was cool, except for one guy in a bayliner. Had the trolling motor IN THE WATER, and insisted on following the school,(usually in the middle of it)with the big motor.
Go figure!
